GoT6: E02 – Hodor!

So now that I’m ensured that people reaching here have watched the episode, I can say those words that I so badly wanted to scream after watching-

JON SNOW IS ALIVE!

jon-snow-alive

I wanted to shout this on top of my voice! But it was morning and people around were busy in a bit more sensible work like studying for end sems.

So yes, he is back. It was a Mihir moment (if you don’t know who Mihir is, ask your mom/dad) as this fan favourite character was brought back to life by Melisandre (or Ghost?). The final moments were so filled with tense and ambiguity, that my reaction resembled Jon’s when he was finally revived. It would be interesting to see the next course of action, and also the explanation of his resurrection. The servants of Lord of Light bringing back a person from the dead isn’t new to the show or the world ( Thoros of Myr brought back Beric Dondarrion about 6 times. Remember?) and nor is a Stark boy unfamiliar to warg. Benioff and Weiss better have a solid reason to bring him back than just to keep the fans happy.

In other world, Ramsay’s hounds are having a great feast every episode. It was Myranda in the previous episode and now it is poor Lady Walda and her newborn boy. Roose’s stabbing was a shocker, but it was rather satisfying to see him being killed in the exact same way as Roose had killed Robb Stark.

Talking of similarities, the Greyjoy’s return after a long hiatus gave a strong sense of  déjà vu. One could easily predict Balon’s end coming. Euron Greyjoy is a character from the novels and he indeed kills Balon, but I think they should have build up the character a bit to get to know his intentions. Hell, we couldn’t even see his face with that hood he wears. Both the Greyjoy and Bolton plotlines thus looked so similar. The creators can’t really afford more criticisms!

Bran finally returns. He is training under the Three-Eyed Raven and is visiting Winterfell at a time when his father and his uncle/aunts were young. This flashback is very crucial for the proceedings, so do look out for that. And how sweet and adorable was it to see Hodor ( his real name is revealed as Wylis) actually speak! There will be lots happening when Bran would visit that place again.

So basically, the North took charge this time and gave us what many say is one of the best episodes of the series. For it to redeem that, the future episodes should clear all the doubts we have right now.

Least to say, it was worth extracting an hour of time from this end sem preparation. And then some more to write this post.

Was there any doubt at this? However convoluted the plot may look now, you have to admit that you were secretly praying to the Lord of Light to bring Jon back! Special mention should go to Jeremy Podeswa for that skillful direction.

“I’m here to help. Don’t eat the help.”

Now that Tyrion is safe in Mereen, he has found his sense of humour back. He says these lines to the dragons when he tries approaching them.
